Red Dead Online is the shared-world multiplayer side of Red Dead Redemption 2. Instead of playing Arthur Morgan, you create your own character, who starts the game freed from prison after being framed for murder. The story is set in 1898, a year before the RDR2 campaign, across the same map: New Hanover, Lemoyne, West Elizabeth, Ambarino and New Austin.
You can ride solo or in a posse of up to seven, play Telegram Missions, compete in Showdown and Featured Series modes, defend towns in Call to Arms and run Blood Money crime contracts. The five Frontier Pursuits — Trader, Bounty Hunter, Collector, Moonshiner and Naturalist — are the long-term progression. Money comes in two forms: RDO$ cash and Gold bars (100 gold nuggets make one bar). Gold can also be bought with real money, which is why every store lists in-app purchases.

No cross-play and no cross-platform progress: PlayStation, Xbox and PC are separate worlds. PS4→PS5 and Xbox One→Series progress carries over automatically on the same account.

In India, the Xbox and Steam sales made standalone Red Dead Online cost less than ₹850 on the day we checked. Monthly events change on a Tuesday; the October 2026 event ends on 2 November. Online play on PlayStation still needs PS Plus, and on Xbox a Game Pass tier with online multiplayer.

Red Dead Online has no cheat codes on any platform, and the Red Dead Redemption 2 Story Mode cheat phrases do not work online. Mod menus, trainers and “gold generators” break Rockstar’s rules and can get an account suspended or banned. The fast, legitimate routes are monthly bonus events (October 2026: 4X RDO$, Gold and XP on Strange Tales of the West, per Rockstar), Daily Challenges, roles and Telegram Missions.
