A folding 2DS with its own editions
New Nintendo 2DS XL is the folding, large-screen member of the 2DS range. Its themed releases include Creeper, Animal Crossing, Poké Ball and Pikachu designs documented by Nintendo. It is not the flat original Nintendo 2DS, and neither 2DS model offers stereoscopic 3D.
Recognising special shells and bundles
The Poké Ball and Pikachu systems should be identified by their actual exterior, not a themed carry case or decal. The Creeper and Animal Crossing packages were sold with software in the documented European bundles. Package contents can vary by market, and redeemed or installed software needs checking separately when buying used.
Checking completeness
Confirm the stylus, charging adapter and memory card are included. Ask the seller to demonstrate the cartridge slot, audio, touch input and both shoulder-button pairs. Look closely at the hinge and upper lid edges. For a boxed collector example, request all sides of the packaging and a list of inserts, rather than assuming that “boxed” means complete.
Current online-service limits
Nintendo ended new eShop purchases for this platform in March 2023 and most online play in April 2024. Local play and supported offline games are different from online services. Previously purchased downloads and updates remain subject to Nintendo’s service notice. Do not buy a used bundle assuming an old voucher can still be redeemed or an account’s digital games can be transferred to you.

Compare the documented software bundles
Nintendo’s range distinguishes four different themed offers. The Animal Crossing listing gives 20 July 2018 for the documented European release. Use these package records rather than treating every special lid as a game bundle.

Japan calls this family New Nintendo 2DS LL. Black/Turquoise and White/Orange launched there on 13 July 2017; Black/Lime and White/Lavender followed on 5 October 2017. Its 4.88-inch upper screen displays in 2D. The lower 4.18-inch screen supports touch input. Nintendo lists a weight of approximately 260g including the stylus and microSD card.
Model and package identifiers in manufacturer documentation
A hardware model number is different from a retailer SKU, barcode or serial number. These are the codes explicitly named in the linked manufacturer documents. The region identifies the documentation archive; it does not establish exclusive sale in that country.
Match the full label on the console and its box. A shared family number alone does not authenticate a special-edition shell, identify every bundle accessory or establish current repair eligibility.
GTA editions to check for this hardware
This hardware record does not yet have a verified GTA compatibility entry. Check the GTA release-platform catalogue before buying it for a particular game. Do not assume support through emulation, streaming or backwards compatibility.
Images identify the pictured hardware; they are not evidence for every variant listed. Missing regional SKUs and undocumented editions remain outside this guide. Send a correction with a source.
