Console catalogue

Buying a used or imported console

This checklist applies across the hardware catalogue. It is purchasing guidance, not evidence that we inspected a seller’s console.

Identify the actual unit

Ask for current photographs of the front, back, model label, ports, controller and packaging. Match the model number and regional suffix against the manufacturer documentation linked in the hardware guide. A colour, themed controller or replacement shell alone does not establish an original limited edition.

Request a working demonstration

Request a dated video of cold startup, game loading and the controls you intend to use. For disc systems, include reading and ejecting a game. For handhelds, include charging, screen condition, buttons, sticks and any hinge or touch input. Ask about repairs, replacement parts and battery condition. Do not assume a fault is absent because it is not visible in a stock image.

Check what is included

List the console, power supply, controller or stylus, memory card, cables, stand, physical game, box and inserts separately. Historical bundle contents do not describe a current seller’s offer. Treat console-only, boxed and complete packages as different conditions. Do not assume old download vouchers still work or that a previous owner’s digital games transfer with the hardware.

Check an import before payment

Confirm the exact power-input label, plug, video connection, software region requirements, interface language, account region and warranty arrangements. Compatibility varies by model and game; a physical connector fitting is not sufficient evidence of compatibility.

Compare the total cost and return terms

Include delivery, import charges, replacement accessories and any repair allowance. Compare actual sold listings of similar condition instead of relying on the highest asking price. Read the seller’s return terms and the marketplace’s payment protections before purchasing.

Understand our buying links

The region selector links to official regional ranges where available and marketplace searches for the named hardware. Search results may contain empty boxes, spare parts, replacement shells or faulty units. We do not verify sellers, live stock, prices or delivery. A historical launch price is not a current offer.

Using this catalogue

Edition pages identify their documented market and source. Follow the original manufacturer reference to compare the design and package. Where no reusable image is cleared for publication, the guide links to the reference rather than substituting another edition’s photograph.
