Hardware and game library

DSi changed the feature set by adding cameras and system software while removing the GBA slot. That omission also affects DS games relying on slot accessories. It is not simply a DS Lite with a different enclosure.

Choosing the right model

Test both cameras, the touch panel and card slots. Historical downloadable-software features do not guarantee current purchase availability. Check the games and accessories you intend to use before replacing a DS Lite. A factory reset and removal of seller account information should be part of a used purchase.

The historical page’s suggestion to buy DSiWare through 3DS is itself outdated after the later 3DS eShop closure. Camera and sound applications should not be confused with current access to the former download shop. Verify existing entitlements separately from the hardware condition.

Supporting documentation

Model and package identifiers in manufacturer documentation

A hardware model number is different from a retailer SKU, barcode or serial number. These are the codes explicitly named in the linked manufacturer documents. The region identifies the documentation archive; it does not establish exclusive sale in that country.

Japan: 1 documented identifiers

Browse the regional source archive

Match the full label on the console and its box. A shared family number alone does not authenticate a special-edition shell, identify every bundle accessory or establish current repair eligibility.

GTA editions to check for this hardware

These links match the release-platform labels in our GTA catalogue. Open the game guide for its edition and sources. This is not a complete backwards-compatibility list or a guarantee of current store availability.
