Red Dead Redemption (2010) India guide: platforms, prices and which version to buy

In brief: Red Dead Redemption is Rockstar's 2010 Western about former outlaw John Marston, and it is now sold with its zombie expansion Undead Nightmare on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC. At our 28 October 2026 check of official India storefronts, Steam India listed it at ₹1,899 (50% off ₹3,799 until 6 November), PlayStation Store India listed the PS4 & PS5 version at Rs 3,799 with no discount, and Xbox Store India showed no standalone purchase price — only a GTA+ inclusion and a discounted RDR + RDR2 bundle at ₹3,079.60. Prices change; confirm on the store before you pay.

This Red Dead Redemption guide is written for Indian players who want to know which version to buy, what it costs on each official store, what the PC needs, and how the 2025 free upgrades work. If you already own Red Dead Redemption 2, think of this as the prequel decision: the same Rockstar world-building, a smaller and more focused story, and a far lower price on most stores. Start at the Red Dead Redemption hub for the short version, or keep reading for the full breakdown.

What Red Dead Redemption is

Red Dead Redemption is set in 1911, at the end of the Wild West. Federal agents hold John Marston's family and force him to hunt down members of the gang he once rode with. The story moves from the fictional New Austin frontier into Mexico and back north, and it is famous for its ending, its music and its slow, deliberate open world. The original was developed by Rockstar San Diego and released in May 2010 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Rockstar describes the current release as "the critically acclaimed predecessor to the 2018 blockbuster, Red Dead Redemption 2".

Undead Nightmare, released later in 2010, reimagines the same map during a zombie outbreak. On every version sold today it is included, together with what the store listings call "bonus content from the Game of the Year Edition". One thing that is not included is multiplayer: the PlayStation, Xbox and Steam listings all state that "Red Dead Redemption does not feature multiplayer content". If you want Rockstar's Western online mode, that is Red Dead Redemption 2 and its Red Dead Online component.

Which platforms can play it in 2026

The game has been re-released several times. The table lists the versions that matter for someone buying today, with the console hardware pages you can use for further compatibility checks.

Rockstar also brought the game to Netflix's mobile games catalogue on iOS and Android on 2 December 2025, so a Netflix subscription is another route on phones. We have not verified the India availability of that mobile version, so check inside the Netflix app.

Three practical points come out of that table. First, PC is the cheapest way to own only the first game while the Steam sale runs: ₹1,899 against Rs 3,799 on PlayStation. Second, the console bundles are the better value if you do not yet own RDR2 — on 28 October the PlayStation and Xbox bundles cost less than the standalone PlayStation game. Third, on Xbox the standalone game was not offered for purchase in India at all during our check; the store page showed it as included with GTA+, Rockstar's subscription, and the bundle was the only priced listing.

GTA+ and PlayStation Plus

Both PlayStation Store India and Xbox Store India marked the game as included with GTA+ on 28 October 2026. GameSpot reported that the game joined GTA+ and the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog when the new versions launched on 2 December 2025. Catalogue line-ups rotate, so if you already subscribe, check your library before buying. Remember that a subscription copy disappears when the subscription ends; a purchase does not.

Which version should you buy?

• You own a PS5 and nothing else: buy the PlayStation Store product — it includes both the PS4 and the PS5 version. If you also want RDR2, the bundle was cheaper than the single game on 28 October.

• You own the PS4 version already: do not pay again. Follow our free upgrade guide.

• You play on Xbox Series X|S: check whether you own the digital Xbox 360 version first; if so the Series version is free. If not, the only priced India listing was the RDR + RDR2 bundle.

• You play on PC: Steam at ₹1,899 was the lowest price we found for the first game alone. Our PC install guide covers Steam, Epic and the Rockstar Store.

• You play on Switch or Switch 2: there is no official Nintendo eShop in India, so you would be buying through a foreign eShop account or imported cartridge. That is outside the scope of this India price check.

PC system requirements (Steam)

The Steam listing gives the following requirements for the PC version. A Rockstar Games account is required, and the Rockstar Games Launcher handles sign-in even for Steam and Epic copies.

Take-Two's launch announcement lists native 4K at up to 144Hz on compatible hardware, ultrawide (21:9) and super-ultrawide (32:9) support, HDR10, adjustable draw distance and shadow quality, full keyboard and mouse controls, and support for NVIDIA DLSS 3.7, DLSS Frame Generation and AMD FSR 3.0. At 12 GB, it is a small install by modern standards — roughly a twelfth of the 150 GB that RDR2 needs.

Cheats, trophies and saves

Red Dead Redemption has a built-in cheats menu with typed English phrases, and the console and PC versions use the same phrases. We keep the verified list on the Red Dead Redemption cheats page and explain entry step by step in our cheats guide. The important warning: activating any cheat disables autosave and trophies or achievements, so make a manual save in a separate slot first. The Steam version has 51 achievements to protect.

What changed in the December 2025 versions

The 2 December 2025 update was the biggest change to the game since 2010. Rockstar worked with Double Eleven and Cast Iron Games on native PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 versions, which Rockstar says run at 60 frames per second with HDR and resolution up to 4K on supported hardware. On Switch 2, Rockstar lists DLSS support and mouse controls. The PS4 and Switch versions remain on sale.

The upgrade rules differ by platform, which is why the free-upgrade guide exists. PlayStation Store India says PS4 owners "can get the PS5 digital version at no extra cost", that disc owners must keep the PS4 disc inserted, and that owners of a disc who switch to the PS5 Digital Edition cannot claim the free upgrade. On Xbox, the store product "entitles you to download both the digital Xbox backwards compatible version and the digital Xbox Series X|S version". On Switch 2, Rockstar support documents the upgrade from the game's own menu.

Is it worth playing before or after RDR2?

Story-wise, Red Dead Redemption is set twelve years after Red Dead Redemption 2's main story, and RDR2 was written as its prequel. Many players start with RDR2 because it is the newer, bigger game, then play the 2010 game to see how the story ends for John Marston. Others prefer release order. There is no wrong answer, but if you play RDR2 first, expect the 2010 game to feel faster and less detailed in its systems — hunting, camp life and horse care are much simpler. It is also shorter, which suits players who want a complete Rockstar story without a 60-hour commitment.

We checked store prices and listings on 28 October 2026 and cite the sources at the end of this page. We did not play-test every platform for this update, and we have not personally verified the Netflix mobile version's availability in India.
