How cheats work in Red Dead Redemption
Red Dead Redemption does not use button sequences like GTA. Instead, every cheat is a short English phrase — often a proverb or a line that sounds like something a character in 1911 would say. Once you type a phrase correctly, the game shows the message "Congratulations! You have successfully unlocked a new cheat code." The cheat then appears in the Cheats list, where you can switch it on and off.
Two rules decide whether a phrase works:
Capital letters do not matter. "abundance is everywhere" and "Abundance Is Everywhere" both work.
Punctuation and spelling do matter. Apostrophes, commas, question marks and exclamation marks must match the phrase. One phrase contains a deliberate misspelling — "imnfinity" — and must be typed that way.
Before you start: protect your save
Every source we checked gives the same warning. GamesRadar+ explains that activating a cheat "will disable autosaves and Achievements or Trophies", and that switching cheats off again does not fix it; you need to reload a save from before you used cheats. Polygon and PC Gamer are stricter: they advise starting a new game if you want to keep unlocking trophies and achievements. The safest approach covers both:
Make a manual save at a camp or safehouse in a slot you will never use with cheats.
Make a second manual save in another slot for your cheat session.
Use cheats only from that second slot.
When you want to go back to normal play, load the clean slot.
If trophies or achievements matter to you — the Steam version has 51 — consider finishing a clean run before experimenting.

How to enter a cheat, step by step
Load your cheat save slot and pause the game.
Open Options, then the Cheats tab.
Press the entry key for your platform: Triangle (PS5, PS4), Y (Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One), X (Nintendo Switch) or F (PC keyboard). On PC with a controller or on Switch 2, use the button shown in the on-screen prompt.
Type the phrase with the on-screen or physical keyboard and confirm.
Look for the "Congratulations!" message. The cheat is now unlocked in the list.
Select the cheat in the list and switch it on. Some cheats, such as spawning a horse or a coach, will not work during a mission or other activity.

The one disagreement: GamesRadar+ and Polygon list Good Guy as "It aint pride. It's honor", without an apostrophe in "aint". PC Gamer prints "ain't". Try the GamesRadar+/Polygon version first; if the game rejects it, try "It ain't pride. It's honor".
Be careful with Jack Attack. It marks every story mission complete and switches you to the epilogue character. Use it only on a throwaway save.
Cheats that are already unlocked
Several entries in the Cheats list have no phrase at all. All three sources list them as unlocked from the start; you simply switch them on.

Polygon and PC Gamer explain that these toggles were originally unlocked by linking a console account to Rockstar Social Club; they are now open to everyone. Descriptions of a few, such as Hitchcock, vary between sources — GamesRadar+ lists its effect as unknown — so we keep them short.
Do cheats work in Undead Nightmare?
Undead Nightmare is included with every current version, but it has its own separate cheat list. We could not verify that list in at least two independent sources at the time of this update, so we have deliberately not published it. The 21 phrases above are for the main Red Dead Redemption story. We will add Undead Nightmare only after we can verify it.
Are there cheats for the 2025 PS5, Xbox Series and Switch 2 versions?
Yes — the cheats menu is part of the game, and GamesRadar+'s list was updated in April 2026, after the native PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 versions launched on 2 December 2025. Troubleshooting
"Invalid cheat" message: check punctuation first. Most failures come from a missing apostrophe or question mark, or from correcting "imnfinity".
The cheat is unlocked but nothing happens: make sure it is switched on in the list, and leave any mission or activity first.
Autosave has stopped: that is expected. Load your clean save slot.
A cheat appeared in a newspaper or in the world: PC Gamer notes that many phrases can also be found in-game. That is the same cheat, not a different code.
Your keyboard layout changes punctuation: on PC, use the US layout or type the apostrophe carefully; a curly quote from a copied web page may not be accepted.

We compared GamesRadar+ (updated 15 April 2026), Polygon (updated 25 June 2025) and PC Gamer (14 November 2024). A phrase was included only when at least two sources matched exactly.
