Red Dead Redemption 2 cheats: all 37 Story Mode phrases for PS4, PS5, Xbox and PC

In brief: Red Dead Redemption 2 has 37 Story Mode cheat phrases. You type them in the in-game Cheats menu on PlayStation, Xbox or PC. Activating a cheat disables saving and Trophies/Achievements for that session. Several phrases need a specific newspaper in your inventory. None of these work in Red Dead Online. We verified the phrase list against GamesRadar+ (updated 21 October 2026) and cross-checked structure with RDR2.org. We have not re-tested every phrase in-game on every SKU.

How to enter cheats

1. Create a manual save you are willing to reload.

2. Pause the game and open Settings.

3. Open Cheats: Triangle on PlayStation, Y on Xbox, Left Shift on PC.

4. Open the text entry again with the same control, type the English phrase exactly (punctuation matters; capitalisation does not), and confirm.

5. Toggle the cheat on only when you accept that saving and trophies are locked for the session.

Tip from the same guides: you can enter a phrase, leave it off, then save. The phrase stays unlocked in the menu so you can toggle it later on a disposable save.

Hard rules

• Story Mode only. Red Dead Online has no official cheat-phrase menu.

• No invincibility phrase appears in the verified 37-code lists we checked.

• Newspaper-gated codes fail until the matching paper is in your satchel after the required story progress.

• Do not buy “Online money cheat” keys from random marketplaces. Prefer Rockstar Support if your Online account has a problem.

Newspapers that unlock codes

GamesRadar+ and RDR2.org both describe newspapers as the reliable unlock path. Buy papers in towns such as Valentine, Rhodes, Saint Denis, Strawberry, Annesburg and Blackwater when sellers stock new issues after story beats. Open the paper in the satchel and read the tagline under a story — that line is often the phrase.

All 37 phrases

Grouped for scanning. Punctuation is part of the code.

Weapons, ammo and gear

• Abundance is the dullest desire — infinite ammunition (newspaper, Chapter 1+).

• A simple life, a beautiful death — basic weapons.

• Greed is American virtue — heavy weapons (newspaper after Chapter 3 mission above).

• Death is silence — stealth weapons.

• History is written by fools — Gunslinger side-mission weapons.

• Vanity. All is vanity — all outfits.

• Eat of knowledge — all crafting recipes.

• Share — all camp upgrades.

Money, Honor and wanted level

• Greed is now a virtue — $500.

• Virtue unearned is not virtue — maximum Honor (newspaper gate).

• You revel in your disgrace, I see — minimum Honor.

• Balance. All is balance — neutral Honor.

• You want punishment — raise wanted level.

• You want freedom — clear wanted level.

• You want everyone to go away — clear bounties/notoriety.

Dead Eye, cores and stamina

• Be greedy only for foresight — infinite Dead Eye.

• The lucky be strong evermore — infinite Stamina (newspaper after Chapter 5).

• Guide me better / Make me better / I shall be better / I still seek more / I seek and I find — Dead Eye levels 1–5.

• Seek all the bounty of this place — permanently increase Health, Stamina and Dead Eye meters.

• You flourish before you die — fill those meters.

• You seek more than the world offers — fill meters and fortify cores (newspaper after Chapter 6 mission).

Horses, vehicles and map

• You long for sight and see nothing — remove fog of war (newspaper gate).

• My kingdom is a horse — increase horse bonding.

• Better than my dog — call horse from any distance.

• Run! Run! Run! — race horse.

• You are a beast built for war — war horse (Epilogue paper).

• You want more than you have — superior horse (Arabian).

• You want something new — random horse.

• The best of the old ways — stagecoach.

• Keep your dreams simple — wagon.

• Keep your dreams light — buggy.

• Would you be happier as a clown? — circus wagon (Epilogue paper).

• A fool on command — drunk effect.

Platform notes for India

PS4 and PS5 use the same Triangle prompt on the PS4 version of the game. Xbox One and Series X|S use Y. PC players on Steam or the Rockstar Launcher use Left Shift. Verification method

Primary phrase list: GamesRadar+ article updated 21 October 2026. Secondary structural cross-check: RDR2.org’s 37-code list. We rejected random SEO pages that added “Online money” codes without a Rockstar source. NextPlayIntel has not claimed hands-on re-entry of every phrase on every 2026 patch; if a patch changes a prompt, trust the in-game Cheats screen and Rockstar Support.

Safe sandbox method

Use this sequence when you want to experiment without ruining a trophy save:

1. Finish whatever chapter you care about on Save A.

2. Copy or create Save B.

3. On Save B, enter every phrase you need but leave them toggled off, then save once more if the game still allows it.

4. Toggle cheats on Save B only.

5. When you are done, reload Save A and leave cheats untouched.

If you accidentally toggle a cheat on Save A, stop playing and reload an earlier manual save. Autosave will not help you once cheats have disabled saving for the session.

Common mistakes

• Typing straight quotes or missing the question mark on Would you be happier as a clown?

• Forgetting the periods in Vanity. All is vanity or Balance. All is balance.

• Expecting infinite ammo before buying a Chapter 1+ newspaper.

• Trying phrases inside Red Dead Online.

• Assuming a PS5 “native” rebuild exists with different codes — the documented list is for the shipped Story Mode Cheats menu.

How this compares to GTA V cheats

GTA V Story Mode uses keyboard strings, phone numbers or controller sequences depending on platform. Red Dead Redemption 2 uses one phrase list across PlayStation, Xbox and PC, entered through Settings. GTA Online has no legitimate story-cheat path for free money; Red Dead Online likewise.
