Hardware and game library

Vita launched in Japan in 2011 and reached other major markets in 2012. Two analogue sticks, front and rear touch input and portable games such as Uncharted: Golden Abyss differentiated it from PSP. It has no UMD drive; owning a PSP disc does not provide a downloadable licence.

Choosing the right model

Inspect touch input, stick drift, card recognition and battery health. Original and Slim models differ in display and charging arrangements. PlayStation TV is a separate TV-connected relative with a restricted compatible library. Verify the exact game rather than assuming every Vita title works on it.

Model details and evidence

Handheld and TV-connected products

Vita’s front and rear touch controls are important to its software library. A TV-connected relative cannot reproduce every handheld interaction in the same way. Treat a digital PSP entitlement and ownership of a UMD as separate things when assessing a GTA purchase for Vita.

Supporting documentation

Model and package identifiers in manufacturer documentation

A hardware model number is different from a retailer SKU, barcode or serial number. These are the codes explicitly named in the linked manufacturer documents. The region identifies the documentation archive; it does not establish exclusive sale in that country.

Match the full label on the console and its box. A shared family number alone does not authenticate a special-edition shell, identify every bundle accessory or establish current repair eligibility.

GTA editions to check for this hardware

This hardware record does not yet have a verified GTA compatibility entry. Check the GTA release-platform catalogue before buying it for a particular game. Do not assume support through emulation, streaming or backwards compatibility.
