Hardware and game library

PSP launched in Japan in December 2004 and in North America and Europe in 2005. UMD carried games and other media. The 1000, 2000 and 3000 generations retained a horizontal design; PSP go used a sliding screen and digital distribution.

Choosing the right model

PSP go cannot read a UMD collection. Street omits Wi-Fi and should not be bought for wireless multiplayer. Batteries, chargers, video cables and storage are not universally interchangeable. Use Sony’s model-specific accessory table. Request a disc-read demonstration for UMD models and inspect the battery compartment.

Model details and evidence

UMD, digital and wireless differences

These distinctions affect which GTA release and multiplayer arrangement you can use. Sony’s accessory compatibility table should be consulted for batteries, charging and video-output accessories. An edition name such as Dissidia or Big Boss describes a package; the PSP generation still determines its basic capabilities.

Supporting documentation

Model and package identifiers in manufacturer documentation

A hardware model number is different from a retailer SKU, barcode or serial number. These are the codes explicitly named in the linked manufacturer documents. The region identifies the documentation archive; it does not establish exclusive sale in that country.

Japan: 5 documented identifiers

Browse the regional source archive

Match the full label on the console and its box. A shared family number alone does not authenticate a special-edition shell, identify every bundle accessory or establish current repair eligibility.

GTA editions to check for this hardware

These links match the release-platform labels in our GTA catalogue. Open the game guide for its edition and sources. This is not a complete backwards-compatibility list or a guarantee of current store availability.
