Kojima Productions has released the first teaser and story details for Death Stranding Isolations, the animated series set in the world of its Death Stranding games. The studio says the show streams exclusively on Disney+ or other Disney services in 2027. There's no exact date yet.

The reveal came on 30 October 2026 in Tokyo, at the studio's 10th anniversary event, BEYOND THE STRAND: The Odyssey of Creation and Endeavor, at Azabudai Hills Gallery. English coverage began at about 01:40 UTC on 30 October (9:40 pm ET on 29 October). In India, that was 7:10 am IST on 30 October.

An original story, not a retelling

Kojima Productions says Isolations tells "a completely new story, separate from that of the video games". It's set in North America right after Sam Porter Bridges, the hero of the first game, reconnects the continent through the Chiral Network. The studio says those new connections bring "new and unforeseen consequences".

The lead is a young girl who has lived in total isolation since the Death Stranding and has come to prefer it. The teaser's opening line, "My mom became a crater", is hers. The synopsis also introduces a wise old man who connects people in an unexplained way, a female soldier caught in a cycle of war, and a boy angry at the absurdity of his life. The series follows a young man and woman as they set out on an adventure.

Who is making it

The animation is traditional, hand-drawn 2D work by Japanese studio E&H production, known for Ninja Kamui and Bullet/Bullet. Takayuki Sano directs, Hideo Kojima is executive producer, and Ilya Kuvshinov is the original character designer. The new name in the credits is Tow Ubukata, the award-winning author of Mardock Scramble, who handles series composition and screenplay.

Confirmed and unconfirmed

  • Confirmed: a 2D hand-drawn anime with an original story, streaming exclusively on Disney+ or other Disney services in 2027, plus the staff above (Kojima Productions).

  • Unconfirmed: an exact premiere date, the number of episodes, the voice cast, and whether Sam or other game characters appear on screen.

Why it matters

The teaser arrives as game adaptations keep spreading across streaming services. Choosing an original story lets the show expand the world without retelling Sam's journey, which players already know from Death Stranding (2019) and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach (2025).
