The three games side by side

Sources: Ubisoft News: Ubisoft on the next generation of consoles (26 Oct 2020) · Wikipedia: Watch Dogs 2 · Steam: Watch_Dogs, AppID 243470 · Steam: Watch_Dogs 2, AppID 447040 · Steam: Watch Dogs: Legion, AppID 2239550. Steam lists Watch Dogs as 26 May 2014 and Watch Dogs 2 as 28 Nov 2016 for its storefront.

Which Watch Dogs should you play first?

• Watch Dogs 2: the best single starting point. Marcus Holloway, a young hacker in San Francisco, leads a lighter, funnier story. Insider Gaming notes many fans consider it the best in the series, and it is the one that drew a Steam player surge in July 2026 (Insider Gaming).
• Watch Dogs: for Aiden Pearce’s origin story. It is the oldest game and plays like one, but the PS4 sale makes it the cheapest in the series for now.
• Watch Dogs: Legion: for the most native console support. Its recruit-anyone system lets you play delivery drivers, grandmothers and spies. It is the only one with a native PS5 and Series X|S version.

Release order only matters for one thing: Bloodline, Legion’s expansion, is a prequel that brings back Aiden Pearce and Wrench (Ubisoft). It makes more sense if you have met both before.

Editions and DLC

The Complete Edition contents come from the Microsoft Store listing and Xbox Wire’s 2015 launch post. The Legion Season Pass includes Bloodline, according to Ubisoft. Edition contents for Watch Dogs 2 and Legion differ by store, so read the edition page before buying.

Prices and the PlayStation sale

Steam and the Microsoft Store had no discounts on 3 November 2026. The PlayStation Store did: Watch Dogs, its Complete Edition and two Watch Dogs 1 + 2 bundles were heavily cut in the US. These sales end within two days:

On the US PlayStation Store the “Watch Dogs 1 + Watch Dogs 2 Standard Editions Bundle” was also $11.99 (list $59.99) and the “Gold Editions Bundle” $13.49 (list $89.99), both until 5 Nov 07:59 UTC. These are PS4 purchases that run on PS5. Watch Dogs 2 on its own was $49.99 and Legion $59.99 with no discount. Watch Dogs 2 on the UK PlayStation Store was £44.99, and Legion was £59.99 in the UK and €69,99 in France.

Store price differences matter. Watch Dogs 2 was €59.99 on Steam France but €49.99 on the Microsoft Store France, and £49.99 on Steam UK against £44.99 on the Microsoft and PlayStation stores. Legion was €59.99 on Steam France and €69.99 on the Microsoft Store. Steam’s UK page for Legion was not available when we checked, so that price is unconfirmed.

Steam India is the cheapest rupee price for Watch Dogs 2 (₹2,999 against ₹3,499 on the Microsoft Store) and for Legion (₹2,999 against ₹3,999 on both Microsoft and PlayStation). For the original game, the PlayStation sale at Rs 374 is far below ₹1,399 on Steam, but it ends early on 5 November IST, at 5:29 am.

Ubisoft+, PS Plus and Game Pass

All three games showed subscription access on 3 November 2026. The PlayStation Store pages for the three games listed them as included with a PlayStation Plus tier and with Ubisoft+ in the US, UK, France and India. The Microsoft Store US pages list Ubisoft+ and Xbox Game Pass as ways to play them. The Complete Edition page is labelled Ubisoft+ Classics. Ubisoft says Bloodline is included with Ubisoft+ (Ubisoft).

Subscription catalogues rotate and depend on your plan tier, so confirm on the store page for your account before relying on it. If you only want a single playthrough, a subscription month can cost less than buying Watch Dogs 2 or Legion outright.

PC specs and Steam Deck

Watch Dogs and Watch Dogs 2 were released for Windows 7 and Steam says they can be played on Windows 10 and 11. Watch Dogs 2 contains EasyAntiCheat and Denuvo anti-tamper, and needs a Ubisoft account. On Steam Deck, Valve rated Watch Dogs and Legion Playable and Watch Dogs 2 Unsupported on 3 November 2026, because of its anti-cheat configuration. Read our Steam Deck guide.

Cheats and unlockables

The Watch Dogs games have no official cheat codes on any platform. There is no cheat menu on console or PC, and the re-releases did not add one. “Cheat” lists for them are PC trainers or mods, which are not official and can break online play. Progress unlocks abilities: skill points for hacks and combat, research for crafting, and in Legion your recruits and their gear. Because there are no codes to verify, we have not built a separate cheats page. Browse other games on our cheats hub.

What’s next for Watch Dogs?

No new Watch Dogs game has been announced. At Ubisoft’s annual meeting on 1 October 2026, CEO Yves Guillemot said the series is “not expected to be put in a creative house for the moment, before it’s potentially remade”, as reported by Insider Gaming.

Insider Gaming also reported that a Watch Dogs: Legion “Director’s Cut” is planned for the first half of 2027 (report). Ubisoft has not confirmed it, its platforms, its price or whether it would be a free update, so treat it as unconfirmed. In July 2026 Watch Dogs 2 reached 16,220 players in 24 hours on Steam during a deep Steam sale, the highest since launch (Insider Gaming).
