Sleeping Dogs is a 2012 open-world action game set in Hong Kong, developed by Vancouver’s United Front Games and published by Square Enix. You play Wei Shen, a Hong Kong-American police officer who goes undercover inside the Sun On Yee Triad. Fights are mostly hand-to-hand, built on a counter-based martial arts system with brutal environmental takedowns. Guns are rare.
Progress runs on three meters: Triad XP for combat skills, Police XP for gun and driving skills, and Face for clothes, cars and perks. The city is small but dense, with Cantonese street chatter and licensed radio stations. It is single-player only. If you came from our open-world crime games history, Sleeping Dogs is the one built around martial arts rather than driving and shooting.

Square Enix’s August 2014 announcement lists all 24 DLC packs built in, 1080p on PS4 and Xbox One, more city ambience, higher audio quality and gameplay tuning based on fan feedback. Most packs are outfits, cars and XP boosts. Three add real content:

On PC, Steam at ₹729 is the simplest rupee option; GOG’s $2.99 sale is cheaper until 1:29 pm IST on 5 November, but your bank may add a foreign-currency fee. On PS5, Rs 1,999 is the official price. The Microsoft Store India price of ₹3,500 is high for a 2014 game, so Xbox players should wait for a sale.

Sleeping Dogs has no official cheat codes on any platform, and the Definitive Edition did not add any. “Cheat” lists for it are PC trainers or mods, which are not official. Unlocks come from play: Face level opens clothes, cars and valet delivery; jade zodiac statues returned to the martial arts club teach new moves; health shrines raise maximum health; and matching outfit sets give bonuses such as extra XP or less police heat. No new game has been announced. United Front Games closed in October 2016, three years after a planned sequel was scrapped. On 2 September 2026, original designer Alastair Cornish told FRVR, as reported by VGC, that a sequel “could happen” but would need “a bit of planetary alignment”.
The film is further along. Simu Liu took over the project in 2025 after Donnie Yen’s version fell through, and Timo Tjahjanto (Nobody 2) was named director in December 2025. On 28 October 2026 Tjahjanto said they are “taking our time” to adapt Wei Shen’s story (GameSpot). No release date or studio deal has been announced.
