Hardware and game library

SP folds to protect the screen and replaces disposable batteries with rechargeable power. Launch hardware uses a front-lit display; later backlit hardware is a different revision. The AGS model code is more informative than a seller saying the screen is bright.

Choosing the right model

Check hinge stability, shoulder buttons, charging and battery condition. A replacement screen can change the experience without changing the model label. Ask whether the screen and shell are original. Headphone connectivity also differs from the original GBA; confirm any adapter you need.

Model details and evidence

Folding design and rechargeable power

Nintendo’s historical specification describes the early illuminated SP and quotes ten hours with the light on or eighteen with it off. Those figures must not be applied as a current battery-health test or used to identify a later display revision. The model label and screen-light behaviour are separate checks.
