Three case generations, many packages
Xbox 360 launched in 2005 and later received redesigned hardware. A package name, storage capacity and case generation describe different things: do not compare a launch Core unit with a later themed system solely by the Xbox 360 name.
Core versus Premium at launch
Microsoft’s launch announcement distinguished the Core package from the Premium package. Core included a wired controller; Premium added a 20GB detachable hard drive and a wireless controller. Used systems may have changed drives or controllers, so ask for a current inventory rather than infer it from the original package name.
Store closure and existing games
The Xbox 360 store stopped new purchases on 29 July 2024. Microsoft’s notice distinguishes this from continuing to play already purchased games and redownload owned content. Backward-compatible Xbox 360 titles on newer Xbox stores are a separate route. Online multiplayer also depends on the individual game’s services; the store notice does not guarantee that every old game server remains available.
Limited edition completeness
The Halo 4 package was announced for 6 November 2012 with a 320GB drive, two themed controllers, the standard game and a wired headset. Its blue lights are part of the documented design. The separately sold Halo 4 controller is a distinct retail item; owning one does not prove a console was sold in the bundle.
Buying and testing
Ask for a cold-start demonstration, a game loading from disc, controller pairing and a view of the storage menu. Match the power brick to the console’s exact model. Check the disc tray, USB sockets and ventilation. A generic photo of a black Xbox 360 cannot establish whether the offer is an Elite, S or E. Request the rear label and all port photographs before comparing prices.
The Halo 4 console package and separately sold Halo 4 controller were distinct products. The store closure concerns new purchases, while existing-content access is a separate matter in Microsoft’s notice. It does not guarantee that each game’s multiplayer servers continue operating.
