Deep Silver and 4A Games have released the METRO Redux Next-Gen Update on consoles. The free update for Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux went live worldwide on 29 October 2026 on PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S and the Microsoft Store, a week after it reached PC on Steam, Epic and GOG on 22 October. Xbox Wire's announcement went up at 16:30 UTC (12:30 pm ET). Japan gets the console version in November.
This is an update for existing games, not a remaster or a new purchase, and it doesn't add ray tracing. There's no Nintendo Switch version.

What changes on console
According to Deep Silver's patch notes and Xbox Wire, consoles get a choice between true 4K at 60 fps and an upscaled 4K mode at 120 fps. PS5 Pro uses Sony's PSSR upscaling, while Xbox uses 4A's own temporal super resolution (TSR). Both games also get 4K textures, screen-space global illumination, reworked lighting and shadows, and a long list of bug fixes.

Linking a Deep Silver Account unlocks digital comic rewards. On Xbox, the games support Xbox Play Anywhere and the Xbox Ally handhelds. One catch from Plaion's FAQ: if you move from the old Microsoft Store version to the upgraded one, your existing saves don't carry over.

Price and where to get it
If you already own either game on a supported platform, the update is free. On Steam, each game lists at $19.99 (₹1,500 in India), and both were 90% off at $1.99 (₹150) when we checked on 30 October; sale prices change, so check the store before buying. Console store prices vary by region and weren't part of the announcement.
According to the announcement, the Metro series has passed 50 million players. The next game, Metro 2039, is due on 4 February 2027, so the update is a timely way to replay the first two games before it arrives.
