New Game+: what you keep and what resets
New Game+ is the feature most players asked for after launch. Once you finish the story you can start again with most of your build, and you can repeat the loop up to NG+5. Ubisoft says each New Game+ tier adds another difficulty modifier: Elite Soldiers turn up more often and max-rank ships start patrolling the seas. There's also a new currency, Escudos, that only works in New Game+. You earn it by completing challenges and looting chests you've already opened, or by exchanging Reales at the General Store, and you spend it on outfits and items exclusive to New Game+. Anything you could already buy with Reales keeps the same price.
Carries over into New Game+ | Resets in New Game+ |
|---|---|
Edward's tools, upgrades, weapons and trinkets | Main story progress and active quests |
Jackdaw upgrades, unlocked officer abilities and pets | Quest-related items |
Money, materials and trade goods | Map fog / discovery and location progress |
Unlocked outfits and their options | Captured forts (retake them) |
Hideout progression, perks and art collection; all Kenway Fleet ships | Officers must be recruited again |
Codex items, treasure maps and store purchases | Access to the Jackdaw and Hideout returns through story progress |
Sources: Ubisoft News; full 1.0.8 patch notes as published by PlayStation Universe. Your upgrades are kept, but you have to reach the Jackdaw and the Hideout again through the story before you can use them.

Nightmare difficulty: four switches, not one
Nightmare isn't a single slider. Ubisoft lets you turn it on separately for ground combat, stealth, naval play and open-world activities, so you can play hard naval battles with normal stealth, or the other way round. These are the specific changes listed in the 1.0.8 patch notes:
Category | Nightmare changes |
|---|---|
Ground combat | Enemies deal 1.8x damage; tighter parry window; no white glint before enemy attacks; ranged enemies fire more often; one-shot protection disabled |
Stealth | Enemies detect you faster and investigate longer; they hear you moving above walking pace; high vantage points need 6 m (instead of 4 m) to keep you hidden |
Naval | Enemy ships deal more damage to the Jackdaw |
Activities | Sharks hit harder; urchin and jellyfish damage doubled; oxygen drains faster underwater; harpooned wildlife is tougher |

The removed attack glint matters most. In Resynced's rebuilt combat, which is built around parries, that white flash is how you time a counter. Without it you have to read enemy animations, and with 1.8x damage and no one-shot safety, a missed parry against a group can end a fight quickly.

Everything else in the update
Takedowns: takedown animations from the 2013 original are back, including hidden blade, unarmed, single sword and gunblade takedowns. Ubisoft also lists new microkill and double-takedown variations. They play at random, and you can't assign them.
Cosmetics: new outfits, trinkets, sails, crew options and pet appearances.
Community chests: six new hidden community chests, some holding rewards the community asked for. The developers say they're deliberately harder to find and they won't give hints.
World: more rogue waves during storms.
Bug fixes: fixes for being unable to launch in Offline Mode after losing the server connection, Deluxe Edition Blackbeard items not showing as Owned, freezes in Nine-Man Morris, Checkers and Fanorona, fast travel to unsynchronised viewpoints in Havana and Long Bay, and soft locks in quests such as "This Tyro Captain", "We Demand a Parley" and "Commodore Eighty-Sixed".
The full patch notes run much longer. If you were stuck on a specific quest, read the bug-fix section there before restarting a save.

What it means for players in India
The update is free for everyone who owns the game, and it lands at 7:30 p.m. IST, a convenient evening slot rather than the late-night drops US-timed patches often bring. If you're on a capped or slow connection, keep the console or PC on so it downloads automatically. Ubisoft hasn't given a download size, so check the size on your own platform before starting it on mobile data.
If you haven't bought the game yet, Steam lists the Standard Edition at ₹4,199 in India (checked 27 Oct 2026). Prices on PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Ubisoft Store and Epic can be different and change with sales, so compare them on the day you buy. Ubisoft+ subscribers get the game as part of the subscription. Steam lists Ubisoft India among the 13 Ubisoft studios credited as developers, so part of this remake was built in India.
Background: why this update matters
Black Flag Resynced is Ubisoft's remake of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (2013). It launched on 9 July 2026 with rebuilt combat that puts parries and takedowns first, smoother stealth and parkour, and naval combat with new alternate-fire options. New Game+ and a harder difficulty were obvious gaps for a pirate game people tend to replay. Calling 1.0.8 the last major content drop tells players that, apart from smaller fixes, this is the version of the game to judge.

How to get Title Update 1.0.8 and start New Game+
From 7:30 p.m. IST on 27 Oct, open your platform library. PS5 and Xbox normally download updates automatically; on PS5 you can also press Options on the game tile and choose Check for Update.
On PC, restart Steam, Ubisoft Connect or the Epic Games Launcher so the client checks for the patch.
Launch the game and check that the version number shows 1.0.8 (Ubisoft's update name).
To start New Game+, finish the main story on your save. The NG+ option then lets you carry your gear, ship and fleet into a new run.
To try Nightmare, open the difficulty settings and turn it on separately for combat, stealth, naval or activities. Start with one category if the full set is too punishing.
In New Game+, earn Escudos from challenges and chests you've already opened, or exchange spare Reales at the General Store.
