Format and stages

  • Play-In Stage, 15–18 October, Riot Games Arena, Los Angeles: four teams in a best-of-five double-elimination bracket, with one place in the Swiss Stage.

  • Swiss Stage, 23–26 and 28–31 October, Allen, Texas: 16 teams over five rounds. Three wins advanced a team and three losses eliminated it.

  • Knockout Stage, 3–8 November, Allen, Texas: eight teams in a single-elimination bracket, every series best-of-five.

  • Final, 14 November, Barclays Center, Brooklyn: best-of-five.

Riot's quarterfinal draw on 31 October paired the two teams that went 3-0 in the Swiss Stage with two of the teams that advanced at 3-2, and drew the other four teams against each other.

History

We list previous Worlds finals only where Riot's own pages confirm the year, venue, winner, runner-up and prize pool. The Riot result pages we checked for earlier editions didn't load those details, so we've left the table out for now rather than rely on third-party wikis.
