Prerequisites & Materials Needed
Required tools & items
- Enshrouded on PC or PS5 — 1.0 or later
- 1 Animal Fur — from animals or chests
- A water source — lake, river, well or water barrel
Estimated time
- Preparation: About 5 minutes to find fur
- Execution: Under 1 minute
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Gather Animal Fur
Fur is the only ingredient.
- Hunt wolves or other animals near your first base.
- Loot the Animal Fur from the body.
- Pro Tip: Craft two pouches: one to drink, one to carry water for crafting.
How you know it worked: Animal Fur shows in your backpack.

Step 2: Craft the Water Pouch by hand
It is a manual recipe, so you do not need the Workbench.
- Open the inventory and go to Crafting.
- Select Water Pouch and craft it.
How you know it worked: An empty Water Pouch appears in your backpack.
Step 3: Fill the pouch
An empty pouch gives no water.
- Equip it and aim at open water, a well or a water barrel.
- Use it until the fill bar is full (capacity 20).
- Look out for: The cursor shows whether you will take water or pour it out; check it before pressing.
How you know it worked: The item tooltip shows a filled water level.
Step 4: Drink it or use it for crafting
The pouch is both a buff and a water source.
- Consume it for +5 Stamina and +10 Stamina Regeneration over 15 minutes.
- Or place it in a crafting station that needs water, such as a cooking station.
- Pro Tip: If you have a well near the station, use the station's draw-water action instead and keep your pouch for travel.
How you know it worked: The station's water storage rises.
The Water Pouch is one of the first items you need in Enshrouded. It is a drink that boosts stamina, and since the Wake of the Water update it is also a refillable container that carries water to crafting stations. This guide covers how to craft it, where to fill it, and the change that confuses returning players: pouches no longer stack.
How this guide was made: researched with AI assistance from Keen Games' patch notes and the official Enshrouded wiki, then edited by Tulasiram Pemmadi. We have not tested it in our own game.

What changed in Wake of the Water
Before November 2025 a water pouch was a single portion of water that stacked. The Wake of the Water update notes (update 0.9, 10 November 2025) turned water into a simulated part of the world: a pouch now has a fill state, so it cannot stack, and old stacks were converted. Crafting recipes now use water portions instead of pouch items, drawn from the station's own water storage, a nearby well, or filled pouches.
Where to get Animal Fur early
Hunt wolves and other furry animals in the Springlands; they drop Animal Fur.
Search chests and Scavenger camps.
Fur is also used for early armour, so keep a few spare.
Platforms and price
Enshrouded is on PC (Steam) and PS5; Xbox Series X|S is planned for spring 2027 per our game guide. The water system works the same on both current platforms. See our Enshrouded game guide for USD, GBP, EUR and INR prices.
Every way to get water in Enshrouded 1.0
Source | How you use it | Best for |
|---|---|---|
Lakes and rivers | Use a pouch or Watering Can on the water | Filling pouches while exploring |
Well | Built in your base; pouches and stations draw from it | Steady supply for crafting stations |
Rainwater barrel | Collects rain; draw from it like a well | Bases far from rivers |
Station water storage | Fill with a Watering Can, a pouch, or the station's draw-from-well button | Cooking and other water recipes |
Water Pouch | Carry water anywhere | Travel and topping up stations |
Rain collection in barrels and station water storage both arrived in the Wake of the Water update. Since then a recipe that needs water consumes water portions from the station's storage, so the station must have water in it, not just a pouch in your backpack.
If your pouch will not fill
Check the cursor: the game shows whether it will take water or pour it out. Aim again until it shows taking water.
Make sure you are using the pouch on real water, a well or a barrel; decorative water props do not always count.
If the pouch is already full, the action does nothing. Drink or empty it first.
Wells and barrels can run dry. Try open water to rule that out.
Why the pouch matters early
The +5 Stamina and faster stamina regeneration last 15 minutes, which helps with gliding, climbing and dodging in the Springlands before you have food buffs. Later, the pouch is mainly a way to move water into stations that are far from a well. Carrying one filled pouch at all times costs one backpack slot and saves trips back to base.
Co-op note
In a multiplayer world each player crafts and carries their own pouches. Stations and wells in a shared base are shared, so one well near the kitchen can supply the whole group's cooking.
Water Pouch or Watering Can?
Both move water, but they do different jobs. The pouch is a drink and a small portable container; the Watering Can is a tool for farming plots and for pouring water into station storage quickly. Early on, the pouch is all you need. Once you start farming, build a well beside your fields and kitchen and keep the pouch for travel, so you are not walking back to the river for every recipe.
Returning players: what happened to old stacks
If you had a stack of water pouches before Wake of the Water, Keen converted them when the update landed, keeping the amount of water up to each new pouch's maximum fill. That is why some older saves show several separate pouches with different fill levels. The same update also unified resource stack sizes, made every food recipe yield five items, and let many recipes accept alternative inputs, such as torches from any wood.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Expecting pouches to stack Since Wake of the Water each pouch is one item with a fill level.
- Putting an empty pouch in a station It supplies no water; fill it first.
- Farming enemies for pouches Enemies stopped dropping them in 1.0.
