Prerequisites & Materials Needed

Required tools & items

  • Enshrouded on PC or PS5 — current 1.0 build

  • Mortar placed near him — from The Alchemist's Mortar quest
  • A pickaxe and an axe — for dirt and mushroom stalks

  • Execution: Instant crafting

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Place the Mortar by the Alchemist

Both Bug Dust and Goo are Mortar recipes.

  • Complete The Alchemist's Mortar.
  • Craft and place the Mortar near Balthazar.

How you know it worked: Bug Dust appears in the Alchemist's list.

Step 2: Farm Critter Parts

Every Goo needs one Bug Dust, and every Bug Dust needs one Critter Parts.

  • Enter the Springlands or Revelwood Shroud.
  • Kill Fell Critters, Crabs and Stingers.
  • Pro Tip: Yellow Stingers drop up to 5 parts.

How you know it worked: Critter Parts in your backpack.

Step 3: Craft Bug Dust

Your first Bug Dust unlocks the Goo recipe.

  • Open the Alchemist.
  • Craft Bug Dust from Critter Parts.

How you know it worked: Goo now appears in the Alchemist's recipes.

Step 4: Gather mushrooms and dirt

Each Goo needs 2 Shroud Mushrooms and 1 Springlands Dirt.

  • Chop green-glowing stalks in the Revelwood Shroud.
  • Dig Springlands terrain for dirt.
  • Look out for: Watch your Shroud timer while chopping stalks.

How you know it worked: Enough of both in storage.

Step 5: Craft Goo

The recipe is instant.

  • Craft Goo at the Alchemist.

How you know it worked: Goo is in your inventory, stacking to 250.

Goo is a sticky binding paste that shows up in a surprising number of Enshrouded recipes: Quick Stack Stations, Magic Chests, Blizzard spells, Shroud Arrows, mage and ranger armour, and many dyes. It is not looted; you make it at the Alchemist. This guide shows the three-step chain behind each piece of Goo and where each ingredient comes from.

How this guide was made: researched with AI assistance from the official Enshrouded wiki, then edited by Tulasiram Pemmadi. We have not tested it in our own game.

Batch maths: what 10 Goo costs

Ten Goo needs 10 Bug Dust (so 10 Critter Parts), 20 Shroud Mushrooms and 10 Springlands Dirt. Two or three large mushroom stalks usually cover the mushrooms, and one pass through a critter-heavy Shroud pocket covers the parts. Dirt is the easiest: a few swings of the pickaxe in the Springlands.

Getting the Mortar

Goo, Flammable Goo and other look-alike materials

Several Enshrouded materials have similar names, and recipes are strict about which one they want. Goo is the basic paste from this guide. Flammable Goo is a separate item: the Laboratory makes 5 of it from 5 Tar, 1 Shroud Vapor, 1 Coal and 1 Goo, and it feeds higher-tier spells such as Ball Lightning II. Goo is also an ingredient for farming, not just combat and storage: the Seedbed uses 1 Goo with a Shroud Mushroom and an Azure Russula to make 5 Azure Russula Seedlings.

A simple farming loop for Goo

  1. Enter the nearest Revelwood Shroud pocket with a full Shroud timer.

  2. Kill every critter you meet for Critter Parts while you chop two or three large mushroom stalks.

  3. Leave before the timer runs low, dig a stack of Springlands Dirt on the way home, and craft Bug Dust then Goo in one visit to the Alchemist.

  4. Store the Goo next to the Carpenter, because most bulk uses (Quick Stack Stations, Magic Chests) are built there.

This loop uses only the recipes on the official wiki; the yields will vary with stalk size and which critters spawn.

The Mortar comes from the Alchemist quest The Alchemist's Mortar: Balthazar says he left it in his tower's basement in Lone Thistle. After you recover it, it is crafted from 10 Lump of Clay, 3 Sulfur, 2 Nitrate, 5 Charcoal and 5 Sand (official wiki Alchemist page).

The PS Store sale ended 29 October; see our game guide for the current PS5 price

Steam prices were read from the Steam store API on 30 October 2026. Enshrouded is on PC and PS5; an Xbox Series X|S version has not been dated. Everything in this guide works the same on both current platforms, in every region.

For players in India

The Indian Steam price of ₹1,799 is the regional price, far below a straight conversion of the US $39.99. Nothing in this guide is region-locked. If you play on a busy shared server at Indian evening peak, recipes and station behaviour are the same as solo; only the server owner's world settings (such as night length) can differ.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Looking for Goo as loot It is crafted, not dropped.
  • Skipping Bug Dust The Goo recipe stays locked until you craft Bug Dust once.
  • Using other dirt The recipe asks for Springlands Dirt specifically.
  • Under-gathering mushrooms You need two per Goo, twice as many as anything else.
